Play Bingo for Charity
Bingo has played a big part in raising money for charitable causes. In fact, before bingo was the commercialised game that it is today it was most often played in community centres and church halls, and has helped to fund more social events and repair more church roofs than virtually any other game apart from the National Lottery that was introduced to the nation in 1994.
Today, bingo more often tends to be played online and in dedicated bingo clubs around the country than in church halls, but the desire to support charitable organisations is still very much a part of the bingo culture. This has led a growing number of clubs and online bingo rooms to stage regular “charity games”.
A charity bingo game is played in exactly the same way as a normal bingo game, but in this case a percentage of the money raised from ticket sales is given to one or more named charities. This means that players still get the excitement of being able to win a prize for themselves, but they also get the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping a good cause just by participating.
For example, over at Foxy Bingo on Monday evenings players can choose to go to “Katie’s Charity Room” – a room named after patron Katie Price. When you play here the bingo site will match 50% of all bingo tickets purchased and donate it to two named charities – currently Vision and The Disability Foundation. Playing in Katie’s Charity Room is just like playing in any other Foxy Bingo room, but the charitable element can make your online bingo game even more fulfilling than usual.
The good causes that an online bingo player can support are varied, and even a modest player who invests just £10 a week into the game could actually raise hundreds of pounds for charitable causes over the course of a year if they choose their games carefully.
If playing bingo for charity interests you, take a look around at the various bingo sites you frequent and see if they have any charitable games. If they do then focusing on these could turn your hobby into a fundraising activity. And of course, you still have the chance of winning a good prize for yourself at the same time.
