Another Tombola Bingo ad banned

TombolaBingoWe at UK Bingo absolutely love the Tombola Bingo ads and have done since they first launched. Through all their changes and the site theme change we have watched the ads with interest, it seems the ASA have also been watching with interest as yet another Tombola Bingo ad gets banned this week.

After the first lot of Tombola Bingo ads were banned for ‘appealing to children’, Tombola Bingo changed their whole bingo site theme for a tropical theme but now one of the new tropical Tombola Bingo ads have also been banned for ‘presenting negative racial stereotypes.

The latest Tombola Bingo ad to be banned showed a white man in a dinner jacket and a black man in a floral shirt sitting around a beach fire with the black man repeating – in song – everything the white man says.

Two viewers complained about the ad, stating they felt it presented a negative racial stereotype and that led to the ASA investigating the adverts. The ASA ruled that the relationship between the two characters “defined as the power of the white man over the black man”. They ruled that the white man was portrayed as more intelligent and having power over the black man and as such have banned the Tombola Bingo ad.

The team behind Tombola Bingo have already stated that they would not use the ad again but they must be getting frustrated with the cost and production that goes into their bingo ads to promote their online bingo site, now that they have had yet another ad banned.
