Bingo Caller of the Year 2007
The Bingo Caller of the Year competition for 2007 has been won by Mr Blake Robson from the Mecca Bingo club in South Shields. The competition was held at Mecca Wood Green on Sunday 25 November and four Mecca Bingo callers were in the running.
The other three Mecca Bingo hopefuls were Mark Lunn from Wednesbury Cross, Will Willard from Cwmbran and James Cook from Fountain Park. The competition was assisted by ASDA, which provided the clothes and footwear for the bingo callers from it’s George fashion range.
Prior to the competition, all eyes had been on fellow Mecca Bingo competitor Will Willard, who had been dubbed the “Man with the Golden Voice” because he had called on no less than three Mecca Millionaire games. As Will prepared for the competition by visiting his local ASDA store to be fitted for a top of the range suit he said: “I was delighted and pleased that ASDA wanted to support me when I go to London, and of course confidence in your appearance is a big part of projecting the right image, so the offer of such a fantastic suit was too good to miss”’
To stand a chance of winning the competition, callers had to perform in front of a packed audience and a judging panel. Actress and model Lorraine Chase was one of the judges, and the panel as a whole was described by officials as being “tough” – something that undoubtedly makes Blake Robson’s victory even more satisfying.
As well as winning the coveted title of UK Bingo Caller of the Year, Blake Robson was given a trophy and a £500 cash prize. He will also get the opportunity to call the bingo numbers in a “celebratory game” that will be played in the gaming capital of the world, Las Vegas.
