The lucky mother of two completed a full house in 40 numbers – less than any other National Bingo player in the country – to scoop the house prize of £288, the regional prize of £3,631 and the National Bingo Game prize of £70,160.

The winner has played bingo ever since she was legally old enough to do so at 18, and she currently plays two or three times a week. On the night of her £73,000 success, her boyfriend was enjoying a drink at the bingo club’s bar.

“He was ecstatic when he realised how much I had won and just kept laughing,” the winner said afterwards. “He said it was unbelievable that something like this could happen to us.  He paid for my ticket so we’re going to spend the money together.”

Another player celebrating a National Bingo Game prize of £35,000 was a 77 year old great-grandmother from Hinckley who completed a full house in 43 calls at the Flutters Club in Rugby Road. She has been playing bingo for 38 years, and ended up winning almost £1,000 for every one of them.

“I’d got no idea I had  won so much,” she said. “It was such a shock. I never slept all night afterwards but it’s wonderful.” Commenting on the Flutters Club itself, she said: “It’s a lovely club and so friendly. The staff are great. Nothing’s too much trouble for them. I can’t praise them all enough.”

The great-grandmother is now planning to treat her family with the windfall and is also looking forward to taking a holiday. Where? “Somewhere where it’s warm,” she said.
