Bingo Night Live

Bingo Night LiveBingo Night Live is a  bingo game show that was broadcast five nights a week on ITV1 from Wednesday 4 June. Presented by Michael Underwood and Melinda Messenger (familiar faces to viewers of GMTV and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway) each 60 minute show will be on air after midnight.

The show is expected to combine free bingo games for cash prizes and general entertainment. Tickets will be available for download from the official web site at www.itv.com/bingonightlive, though it is expected that visitors will need to register in order to be able to play. As well as cash prizes for the regular games, there will also be a Golden Jackpot prize which we believe will work in much the same way as an online progressive.

Bingo Night Live’s post midnight slot will be familiar to viewers of ITV Play games that had been running since September 2006. Make Your Play, Glitterball, Quizmania and The Mint were shows that all gave viewers the chance to win prizes but usually involved calling premium rate numbers.

Unfortunately, a number of television phone-in competitions on a variety of networks have received an enormous amount of bad press in recent years because of alleged impropriety. Whether or not this was a factor in ITV’s decision to close the ITV Play brand in 2007 is a matter of speculation, but the introduction of Bingo Night Live certainly indicates that the company has by no means given up on interactive gaming.

Whether ITV’s new product will prove to be stiff competition for other television bingo shows such as Gala TV and Big Box Bingo remains to be seen, but with Melinda Messenger and Michael Underwood confirmed as the launch presenters, Bingo Night Live is likely to get off to a great start.
