Mecca Wins Awards
The Mecca Bingo club in Romford has been awarded two gongs for “Best Night Time Venue” and “Best Customer Service” in the Havering Community Awards 2007. The awards were determined by public vote, with 2,500 Romford residents deciding which venues were most deserving of the titles. “The staff are over the moon,” said Bernie Dullaghan, manager of Mecca Romford. “We're thrilled that all our effort and hard work has been recognised. If our customers didn't think we deserved it, we wouldn't have won. We're really pleased, particularly as it's a category that included so many different types of businesses within the leisure industry.”
Joe Agius, Communications Officer for Havering Council, said: “Mecca Romford has provided a safe and welcoming environment for a loyal customer base. These awards are recognition for managers like Bernie, who are positively affecting the community, and transforming perceptions of Romford.”
“The awards are a sign that people are really noticing an improvement,” Bernie explained. “It is recognition that businesses are trying to promote a safe environment for the local community.”
Mecca Romford usually has anything between 3,500 and 4,000 visitors each week, and is appealing to a new generation of players as well as those who have been enjoying the game for decades.
“Over the past few years we have seen more and younger people coming along to play, particularly in the evenings,” Bernie said. “Their feedback has been that not only is it a fun night out, they also enjoy playing in a save environment. Mecca Romford is a club where people come with their friends to enjoy a great night out, in a comfortable atmosphere without stretching the purse-strings.”
