Mosque trouble for bingo building
Our news has been dominated with the story of the Mosque suggestion at Ground Zero in New York but here in the UK there’s a similar battle brewing in the Midlands city of Dudley and it centres round an old Gala Bingo club. The Mosque trouble for the bingo building is to go on a little longer as the local Muslim association have turned down the former UK Bingo hall as a potential Mosque.
The building in question is the UK Bingo hall, Gala Bingo in Dudley. Like many bingo halls around the country this Gala Bingo hall has closed down due to the bingo boom and a fall-away of customers playing at traditional bingo halls.
Originally built as the Hippodrome Theatre, Dudley, the hall is mostly remembered in the town as a bingo hall but it was put forward as a proposed location for a new Mosque in the city. However the Dudley Muslim Association (DMA) have turned down the old bingo hall stating that it is not suitable for its needs.
The Dudley Muslim Association have also looked at a casino building on the same road but have deemed both buildings unsuitable. A local petition arguing that a new Mosque is not in keeping with the town’s medieval character may scupper plans for the new building.
Of course Gala Bingo Dudley is just one of the many UK Bingo halls sitting empty around the UK, yet Gala Bingo online is going from strength to strength. If you’re local bingo hall has shut its doors then why not take a look at our online bingo reviews and play your favourite game from the comfort of your own home.
