Platinum Jackpot

The first Platinum Jackpot win in National Bingo Game history has been achieved by Christine Bradfield, a 53 year old mother of two from South Wales.

Christine was playing the National game at the Castle Club in Merthyr Tydfil when she achieved a full house and won four prizes: the club prize of £335, the zone prize of £3,121, the National Bingo Game prize of £80,000 and – to make the success truly spectacular – the Platinum Jackpot of £1,018,233. All of this meant that getting the right numbers at the right time helped Christine to take home £1,101,686.

This is the first time that any player has won the Platinum Jackpot, which builds up over time until someone wins the whole lot. Players in 500 bingo clubs all over the country play the National Bingo Game thanks to technological wizardy which allows everyone to see the same numbers being drawn at exactly the same time. Silver and Gold jackpots have been won in previous months, but the Platinum jackpot is much bigger and therefore more difficult to win. Christine is the first and to achieve the feat and in doing so she won what could be the biggest prize in the history of bingo.

“What a wonderful night for bingo,” commented Paul Talboys, the Chief Executive of the National Bingo Game. “We know it is the biggest bingo win ever in this country but believe it to be the biggest in the world. It is just the boost we needed in these difficult times for the industry.”

Mike Wiltshire, who is the general manager of the Castle Club in Merthyr Tydfil, was the caller when Christine’s life changed forever. “The place erupted,” he said. “Everyone went wild. It was amazing. And word spread quickly so that most people in Merthyr knew before the end of the evening!”

The winner herself, who has been playing bingo since she was old enough to do so at the age of 18, was in a state of shock for some time. She called her husband from the club to tell him about the Platinum Jackpot that had made her a millionaire and he was quickly in shock too. “We won’t sleep tonight,” Christine said after her win, “but he has to go to work in the morning. I work three days a week in a garage and luckily I don’t have to be in until Wednesday, but I’ll be there then. I won’t be giving up work; I couldn’t be at home or I’d be out shopping all the time.”
