Platinum World Record
A Platinum bingo jackpot of £1,167,795 has been won by a National Bingo Game player in Scotland, set a new world record.
This comes just a few months after Christine Bradfield of Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales won the first Platinum Jackpot and set a record of £1,101,686.
The record-breaking win was achieved at Club 3000 in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire on Sunday 23 March, when 38 year old Soraya Lowell achieved a full house before any other player in the country. She has been playing bingo all of her adult life, and has been a member of Club 3000 since it opened its doors to the public sixteen months ago.
Soraya, who cleans offices for a living, celebrated her win until the early hours of the next morning, when she said: “It just won’t sink in yet. I haven’t slept at all but I will be back at work on Tuesday as usual. I clean offices until 1.30a.m. and I don’t intend to give up my job. I like the girls I work with, and they have already said to me don’t pack it in.”
Her husband and four children were at home when Soraya won more than a million, so she telephoned to break the news and her husband answered. “He handed the phone to our eldest daughter who heard the shouting in the background and said she is telling the truth,” Soraya said. “I have three daughters and a son aged 13, 15, 19 and 21 to help me spend it. They have all put in wee orders already; the two oldest want convertibles and don’t even have licences yet!”
National Bingo Game Communications Manager Steve Baldwin was also very happy with Soraya’s win, saying: “This is our second millionaire in eight weeks. We aim to make more winners more often at bingo and love it when they are record breaking! We are thrilled for Soraya and look forward to presenting her with her record breaking cheque.”
