Putting the Sparkle back into Bingo

UK Bingo After a huge slump in the popularity of land based bingo clubs, one bingo company is putting the sparkle back into bingo. The Rank group which run the Mecca Bingo clubs across the UK are giving bingo halls an upmarket makeover to broaden their appeal to a younger audience.

That means that after the refurbishments and makeovers of these clubs you could see waiter-served food and drinks including champagne as bingo tries to shake off its old lady image. There’s no doubt that UK Bingo halls have taken a battering since the smoking ban, the popularity of the online game and the financial slump slowly dwindled their numbers.

This move by the Rank Group who run Mecca Bingo is hoping to redress that by giving bingo halls a broader appeal, hopefully attracting a younger audience.

This project will be done in stages and the first UK Bingo hall to get a £5 million makeover is the Mecca Bingo hall in Beeston, Nottinghamshire. Soon after two more bingo halls in Birmingham and Aberdeen will get the magic touch.

Almost thirty bingo halls have already closed down this year and the land bingo companies need to do something to halt the tidal wave of players walking away from the bingo clubs for good.

This is certainly bringing bingo into the 21st century and only time will tell if bingo halls can shake off an image that has been with them for such a long time and make bingo halls an appealing place for young people.
