Traditional bingo players log on
Kids today? They think they invented the world, the Internet and all things modern but research by the Office of National Statistics has shown that it’s actually the over 50’s who are the big online players and much of this is down to online gaming as traditional bingo players log on and join in the Internet bingo boom. While UK Bingo players can’t smoke and have to put up with poor public transport, feeling driven out of their local bingo halls such as the Gala Bingo halls, they are simply logging on to Gala Bingo online instead.
The survey threw up many interesting facts and figures, showing that people with formal qualifications and people on high incomes are more likely to have used the Internet – tell us something we don’t know –. However, the most interesting fact thrown up by the survey is that the biggest users of the Internet are now the over 50’s.
Add this to the fact that the biggest rise in reasons to be online is online gaming – accounting for 5% of entire internet usage – and it’s easy to see that much of this increase is land bingo players logging on to sites such as Gala and Mecca Bingo, they’re favourite bingo halls, online.
A quick look in the bingo chat rooms at ‘Maggie52’ and ‘Edna48’ make it clear that the UK bingo demographic is changing but is this a good thing? Of course it is. The Internet is revolutionising the world and the idea that the older generation can enjoy a world of online bingo (and other online activities) at their fingertips can only be great news.
