UK Bingo Players Arrested
A charity bingo game turned into a nightmare for six UK Bingo players arrested in Altinkum, Turkey this week. Six holidaymakers were arrested and fined as bingo is classed as a form of unregulated gambling under Turkish law. The UK Bingo players were discovered on Friday night after police raided a bar in Altinkum.
Each of the holidaymakers were fined £55 and the bar is likely to stay closed for several days as punishment to the bar owners while nine other Britons were released without charge.
The bingo game was held as a charity game to raise money for an ex-pat who has cancer, the lady in question is facing chemotherapy and radiotherapy and it was hoped that any money raised could go towards that.
This is why the arrests have angered the ex-pat community who feel it should have been overlooked considering it was a charity game.
Of course bingo is a national institution here in the UK with bingo halls up and down the country and the internet bingo boom we are having right now, so it’s easy to forget that it is a form of gambling and many countries have strict laws governing unsolicited gambling.
This however is the second bingo raid in the area in the last few months and if you’re a UK Bingo player it may be worth remembering that not everywhere in the world shares our fondness for the game.
Stick to sunning yourself when on holiday or take your laptop and play on some of the fantastic internet bingo sites available to UK players.
